As we approach the week of Thanksgiving, I am reminded of the many things that I have to be thankful for. Of course I am thankful for the major parts of my life such as my husband and children, my house and neighborhood, my church, schools and my health. I am thankful for my husband’s job, which allows me to work 6-hours a week and substitute teach. Then I think of the little things that bring me great joy and make me smile daily. My 10-year old son still wants me to snuggle him at night and occasionally I hear “you are the best mom ever”. My 7-year old son has a smile that will melt your heart. I have the best friends that anyone could ask for. I know at least 10 or more people that I could call for anything. My husband has a great family (how many people can say that?). I am so grateful for the beautiful blue October/November skies and the cool air.
After dinner the other night I had my family (my husband and two sons, 7 and 10, and myself) stay at the table and discuss what we were thankful for. We went around the table and one at a time said one thing. I was very moved by my children’s responses. Though I know they are thankful for the large parts of their lives, it touched me to hear that little things make a difference to them also. I heard things like, “my mom who does my homework with me”, “my dad who plays with me”, “my friends”, and “my room”, “Uncle Johnny”, “the food we eat”.
My hope for Thanksgiving is that we will all remember the large things in life that we should be thankful for but also the small things that make up a large part of our lives!!
Happy Thanksgiving!!!!
