Who do you think it's harder on? The mom/dad, or the child(ren)? When I first got asked this question, I automatically thought that it's harder on the children. But after thinking about it...if a mom/dad truly cares and has their child's best interest first, then it's gotta be hard on them too! Dating again has got to be hard, for the dating part alone, but also finding someone good enough to be in their child's life. What do you guys think?
How do single parents do it??

I have a few friends and co-workers that are parents and they tell me the struggles they have to raise a child, and that's when there are TWO parents. They tell me they can't fathom how it would be like to be a single parent - and how hard it must be. I can only imagine! I watched this video that not only is this mom and single mom with 4 kids, but her youngest was born with a kidney dysfunction and she's had to go through all this struggle. I just can't imagine how she does it all! The video is really, really touching too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDWrSONzYcg

There are also some other videos at www.pchhandprints.org that are definitely worth watching!

Snow Day

We almost had a snow day today-- something the kids have been wishing and wishing for the last couple of years. Seems like when I was growing up we usually would get at least one a winter, but not the past couple of years. The snow started last night-- the weather people predicted we would not have any accumulation. About an inch later, the kids were sure they would be staying home today. Then it got one degree warmer and started raining! Total bummer.

I had the kids for dinner last night, but they are spending this week with their father. I have to admit, if they were going to be out of school, I'm glad they were at his house. Snow days for kids don't always equal snow days for adults. He has a flexible schedule, and it's easy for him to stay home and make calls. I know the odd bad weather days, and random school workdays that get thrown in can really play havoc with working parents. But as a kid--- is there anything better than missing school-- especially for snow in the South??

Christmas

I got all the Christmas decorating done last night-- woohoo! It's lovely because I am in a smaller space and you only have to mess with half the stuff. The kids pitched in, and it was the most stress free decorating I have done in years. It didn't have to pass anyone's appropriate test but ours!

I have totally procrastinated on shopping-- but I figure it will all get done. This year my kids are not all about the lists of things they want-- I have been so pleasantly surprised. In some ways it makes it harder, because I do want to get them something they would like, but their maturity of thinking about other people is such a present for me!

Moving

This has been a tough week of parenting alone. I'm in the process of moving, and trying to work, take care of the details, spend more money than I wish I was, plus do carpool, homework, etc. leaves me tired. The good news is that I am close to being done and in a wonderful, new (to me) home. I know it will take me weeks to get settled, but at least I will be in one spot. I feel like I have been in limbo the past month! I forget that moving is one of the big stressors in life, and I have done it twice in the past year! I hope I am able to stay put for a long time!

homeschool

This is a msg. to "Daisy". I do work full time and I do have an only child. It was hard work for her to get me to agree to do homeschool, I wanted her to have the socialization at school. She got me to agree, but, since it was so hard for her to get me to agree, she now does all homeschool on her own; just to prove that I was wrong. She's 16. She was failing in public school, but now she's an A student. I take every complaint from her about school work as an opportunity to say: "maybe you should just go back to the public school" That just makes her work harder at her homework. The home school we use corrects her work then sends it back in the mail. It's really pretty stress free.
