Looking for disipline or consequences for a teenager who left the house without telling a parent they were going and where they went

The next time he/she wants to go somewhere the answer is no OR they go for a shorter period of time. I believe learning a consequence for behaviour is important. How did you go?

The only thing I can think of is to start taking away the things they can't live without (ha)-- phone, car, after school sports-- you have to do something.
