My 11yo doesnt want to do homework. He doesn't understand that its only gonna get worse as the years go by. I am trying to wean him into it and learn time management.
How do you start a routine? I am over it and the stress it causes. So have said he can face the consequence at school
What more can I do?

thank you for your comments, I appreciate your time. I agree with having a plan and also, balance in life. Hey we don't work 13hrs a day. HW must not become encroaching.

To answer your question further. 1. Determine how much homework he or she has 2. Assist them with their homework. Don't do it for them but teach them to be self sufficient and encourage them. Give them hints on making a good grade and why it is important. Give real life experience examples. 3. Explain to them on how to organize their homework. a. Easiest first b. Harder follows(time consuming) 4. Study over your work. -Makes you more efficient in class the next day. That way you stay ahead.

At some schools teachers give entirely too much homework. For example in Elementary a child takes roughly, 7 courses and is there 8 hours per day. In High School it's a little less (courses). I once asked the questions at a PTA Meeting to all teachers there. It was an experimental question that got results from the Principal whom I knew personally. How long on average does it take to do your homework. The teacher informed me -about 1 hour, the next teacher said, about 50 min and so on it went around the room. Now if a kid spends 8 hours in school and has to spend 7 hours at home doing homework, thats burnout and resistance being promoted at the highest level. And alot of teachers present had not relized that so HW was reduced drastically and students interest increased. All has to be balance out.
