I am about to install some type of internet safety device on my computer. I am not very savvy and want to ask for advice. I did a search and found a site called internet-filter-review.toptenreviews.com. On this site it's top 2 picks are Net Nanny and Cybersitter. Does anyone have experience with either? The one that is listed #1 doesn't seem to have as many options, however, since it is #1, maybe I should go with it. They are both $35.00 (I am assuming per yr, I still need to read about that). Thanks for help. Krisi

I just purchased at thing called the Snoop Stick. It is a device you can use on your computer to monitor and control all of the activity on your computer--including IM. A friend told me about it and she said it worked very well. The website is www.snoopstick.com. Good luck!

Don't let having a filter cause you to relax your guard. I have a filter through my local internet provider and thought my worries about inappropriate sites would be over. Come to find out, there are quite a few sites that the filter is not aware of and, therefore, does not block. Once I reported them to my provider, they were sure to block them, but the damage had already been done by then. Also, once your children get old enough to discuss these things with their friends, they learn ways around the filters, etc. My son's friends taught him which sites were not blocked by the filter as well as how to delete his history, searches, etc. so I did not know for a long time that he was getting around the filter until I walked in on him. Needless to say, he no longer has unsupervised internet access. I truly thought I was doing everything to block inappropriate material and found out the hard way that the kids today are just way smarter than I am.

Hey Krisi-- I installed CyberSitter on our PC and it seems to do everything I need it to. It's easy to install, and it should be a one time fee-- I don't think you have to renew it like you do an anti-virus program. It is great that you are being pro-active in installing this!
