Rapid Breathing Mystery

My 7.5 week old seems to have the same problem as Joshua [in the CWK weekly story about an infant with tachypnea]. He also has very rapid breathing and acid reflux, but every test he took came back negative. The only difference is that he had mild meconium aspiration when he was born. Anyone have a similar story and come up with a diagnosis? His doctors are all scratching their heads...

Hi Saara I am Josh's mother and just wanted to update you on his story. After several more tests and a week in the hospital, his pulminologist began treating him for asthma. The only abnormal tests were hyperinflated lungs on x-ray and some thinckenind in the outer portions of the lungs on a CT scan. While both findings are "non-specific" and he does not exhibit the clinical textbook signs of asthma like wheezing and cough, singulair and a high dose of flovent has helped. He is currently asymptomatic and we are just keeping our fingers crossed that he continues to thrive. His physical development - crawling and now almost walking picked up quickly after the rapid breathing stopped. He is now 15 and a half months old and doing great. Please let me know if your docs have figured out what is causing your child's rapid breathing.
