I am a room mom for my son's third grade class.  His teacher is back to teaching after taking a few years off to have babies and get them into preschool.

Her birthday is next week and I have decided to use some of  the class funds to get her a Visa gift card.  She can use it for classroom supplies or for something for herself.  In past years I know room moms have also had each student write a little blurb about why she is the best teacher in the world, etc...and then the room moms bind this into a book.  I suspect that, with moving classrooms yearly , these books eventually get tossed out by the teachers.

Does anyone have an idea of something the kids can do for the teacher to show their appreciation for her on her birthday?  I know she'll love receiving the gift card, but it's really not a gift from the kids. I'd like to compliment the gift card with something a little more personal from her students.  PS-I'm not too crafty!!

Boarding private schoolis a place where a teen is given full support be it studies or relaxation and in every field they excelled through the support of the staff of this school. It offers many extra curricular activities which directly affects in the behavior of the student

Well, my son's teacher's birthday went off without a hitch!! I made a cookie cake to take into the class to share with all the kids at their snack time. I emailed the students' parents a few days in advance and they all had handmade cards for her which she loved. I also used a portion of the class funds ($25 per student voluntary donation) and got her a $100 gift card to the mall. She was incredibly touched and even had tears in her eyes. She is new to our school and had never had a celebration like that at her other schools. I felt great for having helped make her day!

Tomorrow is my son's teacher's big day and the kids are each making her a card. I'm taking in a cookie cake at snack time for the kids to share and also making her a cake for her to take home to enjoy with her famiy.

I love Juff's ideas -- I had never heard that. Our kids have always written a little note -- sometimes it's a "fill in the blank" type thing. (i.e. Miss Freda is really great at ________. The thing I like best about her class is __________.) But we don't bind them -- that way she can take the notes with her or read them and toss them -- whatever, but you don't waste an expense of time or money on binding a book that might get tossed. We've done the flowers, too... one year for the holiday my son's teachers all asked for paper, since it's treated like gold there (as it should be I guess) for copying materials, drawing, etc. Maybe everyone could bring in a ream?

This idea is certainly not new but we have our children all bring in one flower for their teacher's birthday. Someone collects them and presents her with a beautiful bouquet. We have also had each child bring in a piece of fruit and put together a fruit basket for the teacher. Like I said, these are not fresh new ideas but it makes the teacher and the kids happy!!
