My Dad (my son's Grandfather) is having surgery in a couple of weeks. He an my son are really close and getting closer all the time. This weekend, I was planning to go see my dad before his surgery, and then I'll go again the week after he's home from the hospital. (I have plenty of siblings sharing time with my mom and dad during this time, so we're lucky there.) My son has several end of the year parties the weekend I was planning to go down, and he's torn between wanting to see his grandpa and wanting to play with his friends. I told him it was okay to wait until after his grandpa's surgery (two weeks or so) since we'd be going again. But that in the end, he could make the decision or even come with me both times. What do you think? Is it important that my son see his grandpa before his surgery in case, God forbid, anything happens? Should I make that decision for him? Or do you think it's okay to wait? I don't expect complications but I guess you never know...

Thanks for any input and insight!
