I'm new to the site, and I have just started working part-time about 4 months ago. I'm a married mom of 4, and finding it hard to keep up. One thing that has been my saving grace is my before bedtime routine. I don't always get it done, but I just start over the next day. I make sure the kitchen is cleaned up, dishes put away, mine and the kids clothes pulled out for tomorrow, all backpacks, purses, coats and shoes by the back door, lunches made. Then I take care of myself, wash up, brush and floss, vitamins. If I have time, I'll read from whatever book is on the nightstand, or I'll do a top coat on my nails. It feels good to go to bed and know things are ready, and I hardly have to think in the morning. It is all about the balance. Making sure I do something for myself everytime I do something for someone else.

Write It Down, Make It Happen:
by Henriette Anne Klauser, Ph.D

Too often, people drift through life with a vague sense of uneasiness, living in the antechamber, longing to find some adventure or purpose in life, envious of those whose lives seem exciting. In Write It Down, Make It Happen, Henriette Anne Klauser, Ph.D., shows you how to write your own lifescript. Simply writing down your goals in life is the first step toward achieving them. The "writing it down" part is not about time management; it's not a "to-do today" list that will make you feel guilty if you don't get every single thing done. Rather, writing it down is about clearing your head, identifying what you want, and setting your intent. You can "make it happen" purely by believing in the possibility. There is no "right way" to write a goal down -- a single line jotted on a scrap of paper is as valuable as a full-blown description of the goal that goes on for several pages. Once you state your goals in writing, the rest of the world can cooperate with your ambition -- from grand career goals and major moves to having a better relationship with a teenage son, or simply waking up in the morning happy. In Write It Down, Make It Happen, you will read stories from ordinary people who witnessed miracles large and small unfold in their lives after they performed the basic act of putting their goals on paper. Dr. Klauser also includes practical exercises and tips on how you can use writing to understand what you want and become a proactive force in your own destiny.

I agree about being ready for the morning. I too like to have things organized so I can just go on auto pilot. My parents are visiting now and my mom privately had a talk with all three of my kids about helping out more. That was a nice thing for her to do for me. I know I contributed more at their age than my children do. That's going to be my New Year's Resolution....to do like juff and get them to do more around the house.

What ages are your children? Do you have them involved in getting things ready for the next day at school? My boys are 8 and 11 and I just recently decided that I did way to much for them. On Sunday evenings they now pick out their clothes for the week. (I have had to loosen up a little on what they pick out to wear). We keep their shoes in a bucket by the door so they can grab them. You obviously have two times the kids that I do so that makes a big difference. Make sure you don't run yourself in the ground because you now work part time. Ask for help!

Good for you Teri-- On my good days that happens and life goes much more smoothly. Then there are those other days.....! I'm not sure I can subscribe to trying to do something for myself everytime I do something for someone else. How do you do that? With 4 kids! What book are you reading now?
