The Simpsons
Posted by: jake schl on June 12, 2007 at 12:24PM EST
THE SIMPSONS is the longest running animated show and is known through generations. We all look to see what an AVERAGE American family seems like and to see how they act in situations. This is one show that many families can agree on that it was a show everyone used to watch. I like it because my mom doesn't really like it! I also like it because it's funny, it's sarcastic (like me), makes fun of things I think are funny. Funny enough, the show actually teaches you lessons like ... how to use humor in life; what a really bad dad is like; what it would be like to have a really bad brother!

I grew up watching the simpsons with my family after dinner. My brother is 8 years older than me so i was often exposed to more "mature" content then was probablly necesary, but we always watched it together. I think that many of the shows jokes are a little inapropriate, but i think parents should just judge their own kids maturity level and then allow them to watch the show if they think they can handle the somewhat "adult content". If their child isn't ready then wait till next year but i think watching it with your child is definitly a good idea. Also there are other funny shows out their with more appropriate messages.

My kids are younger so I can say that I hate the Simpson's. They watch plenty of smart _ _ _ shows on Cartoon Network and Nick. I fully agree with Jake that humor is very beneficial in life. I recently saw a story on "The Today Show" that said laughing actually has medical benefit. As my children get older I may actually consider letting them watch The Simpsons now!!

My son (14) loves the Simpsons! And I have to admit-- it is pretty funny. I watch it with him fairly often. As a mom, I cringe as some of the stuff-- but maybe I take it too seriously when I'm in Mom Mode! Mostly, I admire the patience of Marge, the beautiful blue haired mother. She puts up with a lot from Homer and Bart. It's hard to believe that the Simpsons have been on so long-- I guess they are doing something right!

Now I know why my son likes this show so much. Maybe I should sit down with him one day and watch it with him! Thanks for enlightening me!

Look up how they produce the show and how long it takes to make each episode--you'll be surprised and it's really neat how much time they put into their show! One of my high school teachers LOVED the Simpsons. One day when we needed a break from the current lesson, he brought in articles and episodes for us to watch.
