Star athletes in high school dream of one day playing in college, even
getting a college scholarship. A quick review of the odds of playing on
a college team show their dreams are at risk. What’s more, there is a

Since it isn’t considered a Varsity sport, most Universities don’t offer cheerleading scholarships. This past year, I was a Vanderbilt cheerleader. It was a lot of work, and it would have been nice to get compensated for all of the time I spent practicing and cheering. Our one perk was being able to eat in the athletic dining facility; the chef, Magic, has been featured in Sports Illustrated and other magazines as one of the top athletic chefs in the nation. It was a nice treat, but I would have liked to be treated like one of the other athletes and be given monetary compensation as well.

This is a great story. I have actually been struggling with this. Its my junior year and I have always wanted to play in college, but now i'm begining to spread my time around because i am too focused on just one activity. I have learned that in order to get into college or even get in on an athletic scholarship your activites have to be diverse. My parents have been urging me to do more community service, get involved with peer programs at my school, and even try out for another sport. My love for playing basketball is still there, I am just making sure I have other options.

I have friends who are hoping to get college scholarships, but it is very hard. Sports are so competitive today and everyone is competing for the same thing. Not everyone can get a sports scholarship, because there aren't that many available. You have to work really hard to earn a scholarship in college.

It is a good idea to stay well rounded and be involved in many different things. However, I know how much work it takes to achieve a goal of getting a scholarship and continue playing in college. Sports seem to get more and more competitive as time goes on. I think it's great if someone is dedicated to getting a scholarship; however, it's a good idea to have backup and not blow everything else off.
