Every, millions of kids skip school or drop out altogether. But
there are vitally important reasons for kids to stay in school.
Dropouts are less likely to have jobs, more often dependent on welfare,
and more likely to end up in jail. Did you know that two-thirds of the
U.S. prison inmates did not finish high school?
How do we convince students - and parents - that staying in school
is the foundation for a healthy life and successful future? It all
starts with A Matter of Degree.

You simply can't learn if you're not there. The kids -- and parents -- in this program offer a reality check into what happens when you never show up for school or work. And even though parents may think their teens are getting older and more independent, they still need us involved to make sure they're on the right path.

The video was a reality check for me about letting the boys miss a day of school just for the heck of it. Fortunately, my 5th grader won't miss school because he knows how behind he will get in his work. Work ethic starts young and as parents we have to help instill this value.
